TI announced its eCosto solution a while back. While it may appear to be targetted to the emerging markets the biggest question comes: Is this going to cannibalize the existing solutions providing those features?
My guess would be yes. Picture this, TI announced LoCosto with a silicon price of about US$5 bringing it down from about US$15 earlier. Now to be used in 50 models across 15 solutions.... I would assume that literally every single low-cost handset would eventually use something similar in its solution. And while this may appear to benefit the OEM's with lower silicon costs, the biggest side-effect is that it narrows the performance gap and feature gap between various OEM's. This means that they now compete on pricing and good looks.....
What will this lead to .....
My guess...........you have another Intel look alike coming here, though in the cell phone industry.
